From top to bottom: Four Leg, Jack, Pierced Neck, One Leg
These replicas of rare Native American memorial dance sticks are a tribute to Native peoples’ belief in the mystical and sacred character of the horse. Real life dance sticks were created to honor war horses killed in battle. They were about three feet long, embellished with hair from the horse’s tail and decorated with tacks, feathers, trade cloth and even scalps. Some were marked in red paint where the horse was wounded.
Harvey created the sacred dance stick “Jack” in remembrance of his own beautiful horse who would come running to Harvey when he whistled.
