Miniature for Glendive monument It’s Gonna’ Be A Rodeo
In the mid 1970s Harvey drove a pickup with a topper. His daughter Dee Dee and his dog Whiskey liked to ride in the back on the way to art shows. At a stop at a gas station, Harvey opened the topper to let his passengers out unaware that Dee Dee had the dog’s leash wrapped around her wrist. As soon as the door opened, Whiskey spied another dog across the parking lot. He flew out with Dee Dee in tow. The two dogs tied into each other. Harvey rescued Dee Dee from the fiasco and got the two dogs separated with only a few scrapes. Dee Dee says she still remembers that wild run.
This story was my inspiration for The Buckeroo. The life-size version of a little cowboy attempting to hold back his dog is placed on a street in Glendive, Montana on course to intercept Poodle Girl heading for the intersection on a cross street. I call the two-piece sculpture It’s Gonna Be a Rodeo
