by Harvey Rattey
Checkin’ the Stock brings back so many good memories. In 1996, the year we moved to Glendive, our neighbor rode his horse over to welcome us. He stayed for a while and as he rode off with his dog leading the way, I said to Harvey, “You should do that sculpture.” By the following day Harvey had created the scene in wax. We later made molds and cast it into a bronze edition. Both the subject and the artist are gone now, but they are not forgotten. This piece portrays the unadorned and honest goodness of our western way of life.
