By Pamela Harr
Mail call was usually the best part of the day for a soldier away from home. I created this sculpture as a model for a larger than life-size bronze to be placed in 2026 in Glendive’s Dawson County Veterans Memorial Park. An M-16 leans on his shoulder as he reads a letter from home with keen interest. I was inspired by one of the many photos taken in 1970 Vietnam by my first husband, Cpt. Gerry Harr. It sometimes seems like only yesterday that he was killed there in 1971. I’m so thankful to have an opportunity to create this poignant sculpture as a tribute to all who have served our country. “We must never forget.”
