This beautiful scene is a tribute to the best in sheep ranching. Sheep provided a good return from a modest investment. Land covered with wild forage that could not support cattle turned out to be perfect for sheep. Annual profits from the wool saved many a homestead from going broke during hard times. Sheep wore bells to help shepherds locate the flock and keep it together, and to help strays find their way back.
