by Harvey Rattey
Harvey won Sculptor of the Year for this sculpture at the National Wild Turkey Foundation Convention and Sport Show in Charleston, South Carolina in 1992. Harvey used to say that calling turkeys was more exciting than hunting big game. One spring he was guiding for another hunter in the Black Hills of South Dakota. As Harvey enticed a big tom turkey closer and closer, the hunter whispered that the turkey was exhibiting the most perfect three-quarter strut he’d ever seen. He explained that the tom had not fully fanned his tail; as he walked, his head turned from side to side so he could watch his rear for predators coming up from behind. ~Pamela
