Sometimes referred to as “gun dogs” or “bird dogs,” Pointers are prized by upland game bird and waterfowl hunters. Their name comes from the way they signal to their human partner that they have located game. When they pick up the scent, they will stand completely still with one paw and their tail raised, facing the birds.
Pointers are athletic, high-energy dogs who can handle bad weather and rough country. They are intelligent, courageous, and they love to have fun. As well as excellent hunting partners, they also make great companions at home.
