The Reunion

Bronze sculpture of the reunion between Sacajawea and her brother.

by Harvey Rattey

The Reunion portrays the fortuitous reuniting of Sacagawea with her brother, a Shoshoni man whose assistance contributed so much to the success of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. It was he who facilitated the acquisition of the horses that enabled the Expedition to cross the Rocky Mountains.  The touching moment captured in The Reunion shows Sacagawea greeting her brother in the traditional Native American manner of throwing her blanket around him.
